Sarah gives lectures and talks on architects, architecture, and the Victorians’ passion for ferns.
She has given a talk on ‘Fern Fever: The Story of Pteridomania’ to many different groups of people, including: the Friends of Bristol Art Gallery; Bristol University MA in Garden History students; the British Pteridological Society AGM, London; Words by the Water Literary Festival, Keswick; Avon Gardens Trust; Victorian Society Supper Lecture, London; the Bindman Lecture at the Wordsworth Trust, Grasmere; Passions in Botany Group, Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution; Oxfordshire Gardens Trust; Bristol Naturalists’ Society; the Friends of Caversham Court Gardens AGM, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter, The Robert Penson Lecture in Garden History 2013, St John’s College, Oxford, The Kilvert Society 2015 AGM, Hereford, and the Cumbria Gardens Trust 2016 AGM.
Sarah has also lectured widely on Victorian and Edwardian architects and architecture to various organisations, including the Victorian Society, Twentieth Century Society, University of Bristol, and local history groups. She has taught Day Schools and adult courses for the University of Bristol’s Department of History of Art, and Oxford University Department of Continuing Education, as well as directing ‘East or West, Hame’s Best’: The Victorian and Edwardian House in the West Country, a week-long residential adult Summer School for Bristol University.
